I provide therapy for a wide range of issues to people from all walks of life. Together, we can get to the root of your challenges and help you reach your goals. Get started today.
While you may initially feel some apprehension in discussing the intimate details of your life with a stranger, this anonymity provides the foundation of a successful patient-therapist relationship. You may actually find it liberating to speak with someone who doesn’t know you or your family and friends, and who won’t judge you or your actions. As you continue, it is of utmost importance that your individual therapy sessions become a safe place conducive to understanding, growth, and discovery.
Together, we will make therapy a collaborative process to address whatever presenting issues you bring into the room, increase your coping skills, and help you to become more effectively connected to yourself and those around you.
Meet Dr. Kim Knight, Psy.D. | Therapist in Nashville, Spring Hill, & Franklin, TN
Hi, I’m Dr. Kim Knight. As a licensed psychologist, I’m passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and come out feeling more confident, grounded, and connected than ever. I recognize the vulnerability and courage it takes to reach out for help, and I want to ensure you that you don’t need to keep struggling alone.
Together, we’ll discover the thoughts, feelings, and patterns that keep you stuck. We’ll make space to explore your experiences and work together to find a path toward your goals. Having the support of a trusted, professional counselor can empower you to grow in ways you may not have imagined possible.
I’ve worked as a private practice clinician for more than 25 years. My diverse professional experience, as well as my formal training and education, have equipped me in supporting people across the lifespan with a wide range of issues. I welcome teens, adults, couples, and families into my practice located near Spring Hill, Franklin, & Nashville, TN. I can also see clients virtually in over 30 states through PsyPact.
My counseling style
I take a warm, interactive approach to therapy. I understand that talking to a stranger about your deepest feelings and most difficult life experiences can feel daunting, so I do everything I can to make the therapy room a safe, supportive environment.
Therapy with me is also highly interactive. I’m not the type of therapist that will only sit, listen, and nod the entire time without saying much in response. You’re taking the courageous step to be vulnerable, and you deserve for me to show up as my genuine self in return. I’m direct in session, gently challenging unhelpful thought patterns and offering suggestions and alternatives.
During our work together, we’ll collaborate to create a treatment plan that makes the most sense for your needs and goals. We’ll consistently check in about this plan to make sure that we’re still headed in the right direction and going at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I use a variety of different therapeutic modalities in my work, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). Above all, I use a client-centered approach to ensure that each person’s therapy experience is tailored to their unique experience.

Why would someone go to a counselor?
People seek therapy for all kinds of different reasons. Many people work with a counselor to manage and improve mental health issues like anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more. However, you don’t need a formal mental health diagnosis to benefit from working with a therapist.
Therapy is a safe space for you to process relationship issues, self-esteem problems, challenges at work, stress, life transitions, body image issues, and more. Life can be challenging, but you don’t have to work through your problems on your own.
Working with a Nashville therapist can give you the support and guidance you need to navigate whatever issues you’re facing. Therapy is a space where you can feel seen and heard without judgment, and having a sounding board outside your personal life can prove invaluable when you’re struggling.
There are so many different therapists in and around Nashville. How do I pick a therapist that’s right for me?
Since each person’s needs and goals for therapy are different, it’s important to be intentional when choosing a therapist. Finding the best Nashville therapist for your needs may take some time and even a bit of trial and error, but with some patience and vulnerability, you’ll be able to find the right therapist for you.
Start with logistical considerations. If you’d prefer online therapy, ensure that a potential therapist is licensed to work with people in your state. (I’m credentialed through PsyPact, so I serve people in over 30 states.) You’ll also want to ensure that a potential therapist provides the type of therapy you’re looking for (i.e. individual therapy, couples counseling, group therapy, career counseling, addiction counseling, etc.).
You can also consider your therapist’s credentials. You may choose to work with a licensed clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, or a psychologist like me depending on your needs and preferences.
Beyond the logistics, it’s also important to find a therapist who you truly connect with. Forming a trusting, genuine therapeutic relationship will help you get the most out of your time in counseling. Many therapists offer complimentary consultations so you can get a better sense of what working together might feel like.
