Meet Dr. Kim Knight, Psy.D. | Providing online therapy in Nashville, Franklin, Spring Hill, and beyond
Hi, I’m Dr. Kim Knight. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist located in the greater Nashville, TN area. While I provide in-person therapy at my offices in Brentwood and Spring Hill, I’m also pleased to offer online counseling sessions for residents across the state of Tennessee and in several states nationwide.
My approach to therapy is both warm and direct. I know how vulnerable it can feel to discuss your issues and innermost feelings with a stranger, so I’m dedicated to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space for all my clients.
At the same time, I don’t shy away from confronting difficult topics when necessary. Your growth is the most important thing, and shielding you from this won’t help you make the progress you’re looking for.
In my 25+ years in private practice, I’ve developed several specialty areas. I’m well-versed in supporting people going through the following challenges.
- Anxiety and Stress
- Body Image Issues
- Low Self Esteem
- Career Related Concerns
- Depression
- Difficulty with Life Transitions
- Grief and Loss
- Relationship Struggles
- Parenting Issues
- Couples Work
- Adolescent Issues
Keep in mind that this isn’t an exhaustive list. If you’re interested in working together and don’t see your specific issue named here, I still invite you to reach out. We can discuss your unique situation and get a feel for whether we might be the right fit for each other.

FAQs about online therapy in the Nashville area
Is online therapy good for you?
Yes, online therapy is an excellent option for many people. It’s convenient, allowing you to join via your computer or mobile device from the comfort of your home (or wherever works best for you). Plus, you don’t have to commute to a therapy office or wait in the waiting room.
I’ve found that it can be just as easy to build a supportive therapeutic relationship online as it is in person. Plus research shows that virtual therapy can be highly effective—check out this study.
Who should not use online therapy?
At the same time, virtual therapy might not be the best fit for everyone. For some people, in-person mental health services are simply their preference. It’s important to reflect on your personal needs to decide which approach is best for you.
If there are safety issues such as suicidality or domestic violence, in-person appointments with a specialist are recommended. Certain treatment programs for people with intense symptoms, such as symptoms of substance abuse, sexual addiction, or eating disorders, may also advise in-person sessions.
If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact 988 or visit your local crisis center or emergency room. If you or a loved one is experiencing domestic violence, please contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233
Can I talk to a therapist online for free?
Certain programs or affinity organizations may offer low- or no-cost therapy for certain populations or situations. Group therapy can also be an affordable option if you’re interested in keeping costs down.
While I’m unable to provide no-cost therapy, I can provide documentation that you can submit to your insurance company to use your out-of-network benefits. You may be able to receive reimbursement for part of the cost of sessions.
