Meet Dr. Kim Knight, Psy.D. | Spring Hill, Franklin, & Nashville depression therapist
Hi, I’m Dr. Kim Knight, a licensed psychologist located in the greater Nashville, TN area. I also serve residents of over 30 states with virtual depression treatment. I have over 25 years of experience in treating depression, and I’ve seen firsthand how therapy can significantly improve a person’s mental health and quality of life.
I understand how vulnerable it can feel to start a depression treatment program, especially if you’re new to therapy. That’s why I’m dedicated to creating a space where you feel supported and able to express yourself without fear of judgment.
It’s important to know that you’re not in this alone: I’ll be here to guide you every step of the way. Through my years working as a therapist, I’ve honed my therapeutic style. I’m both warm and interactive, while at the same time using direct communication. I won’t shy away from discussing hard truths or helping you process uncomfortable emotions.
Most importantly, I work with each of my clients to customize the therapy process to their unique needs and goals. Together, we’ll create a plan to help you get to the root of your depression symptoms and find tangible strategies to help you feel like yourself again.
Why choose Dr. Kim Knight for depression treatment in Nashville & Spring Hill
Depression therapy is most effective when you find a clinician that you truly connect with. Here are a few reasons why I might be the right depression therapist for you.
I have decades of experience as a therapist.
After working as a therapist for over 25 years, I’m well-versed in treating depression. I also recognize that depression can often co-occur with another mental health condition, such as an anxiety disorder, or other life challenges like low self-esteem, relationship issues, life transitions, and more. I’ve seen it all, and I know that I can help you, too.
I offer depression treatment for the whole family.
Unfortunately, no one is immune from experiencing depression. While we might think of depression as an adult issue, children, teens, and families can all be affected. That’s why I offer both individual therapy and family therapy. Is depression affecting your relationship? I provide couples therapy as well.
I can support people in over 30 states.
While I provide in-person services for people in the greater Nashville, TN area (including Brentwood and Spring Hill), I also offer teletherapy to people across the state and in many other states nationwide. Check out the list of states covered by PsyPact to see if we can work together.
Signs that another practice might be a better fit for you
While my services are a good fit for a wide range of individuals, couples, and families, I recognize that my practice may not be right for everyone. Here are a few signs that you might work better with a different clinician.
You’re located in one of the few states that PsyPact doesn’t cover.
My credentials through PsyPact allow me to provide telehealth services to individuals located in most states nationwide. Unfortunately, not every state is covered. If you live in one of the states that do not participate, licensing regulations prohibit me from providing services.
You’re looking for free therapy.
While finances can make it difficult to get the care you need, I’m not able to provide no-cost therapy services at this time. As an out-of-network provider, I am able to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance plan for partial reimbursement.
You need a higher level of care.
While depression can often be treated effectively with outpatient treatment (such as individual therapy), there are some instances in which a higher level of care may be more appropriate. If your symptoms are severe, I recommend seeking intensive support from a depression treatment center before seeking outpatient treatment services.
If you or a loved one is in crisis and needs immediate support, please contact 988 or visit your local crisis center or emergency room.
FAQs about depression treatment in Nashville & beyond
What is the current best treatment for depression?
There are many different treatment options for depression. Individual therapy is one of the most common treatments. There are a number of modalities that can help improve depression symptoms, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and more.
In some cases, additional treatments such as medication management may be helpful. People may also seek help at a treatment center if their symptoms are severe or if they have certain co-occurring conditions, such as substance abuse.
Each person has different needs, so I suggest reflecting on all of your therapy options before making a decision. If you’re not sure whether my services are the right fit for you, I encourage you to reach out.
Is it worth going to therapy for depression?
Yes, depression treatment is absolutely worth it. In my years as a therapist, I’ve seen firsthand how drastically mood disorder symptoms can improve with the right support.
Research also shows how effective therapy can be in treating depression. Check out this study on how cognitive behavioral therapy can help improve symptoms of major depressive disorder.
How do you talk to a therapist about depression?
It can be daunting to talk to a therapist about depression, especially if you’re new to therapy. It’s normal to feel nervous at first. After all, your therapist is a stranger, even if you know that they’re a professional who wants to help you.
You can tell your therapist that you feel nervous or aren’t sure how to approach this topic. Your therapist will guide you through the process. Plus, you’ll feel more comfortable as you start to build a therapeutic relationship together.
