In-person therapy is an excellent option for people who want a dedicated environment to engage in therapy work. Having this safe space that’s separate from your work and home life can be incredibly healing. My offices are currently located in Brentwood and Spring Hill.
Online therapy for anxiety disorders
Other people prefer the convenience and flexibility of virtual therapy. This allows you to get support from the comfort of your own home without needing to take extra time off work for the commute or find childcare for your appointment. Plus, online therapy allows me to treat anxiety in people living beyond Tennessee.
Couples therapy for anxiety
Anxiety disorders can also have a significant impact on our relationships. If you and your partner are struggling with the impact of anxiety on your connection, consider working with a couples therapist in Nashville.

Here, I touch on some of the most common questions I receive about anxiety counseling. If you have more questions, I encourage you to contact me directly.
What are the symptoms of anxiety?
The term “anxiety” itself isn’t a clinical diagnosis. There are actually several different forms of anxiety disorders. Here are some of the common ones and their symptoms.
- Generalized anxiety disorder. Symptoms include persistent worry that’s difficult to control, trouble relaxing, muscle tension, sleep problems, and more.
- Panic disorder. Symptoms include panic attacks, which are periods of intense fear that come along with physical symptoms like heart palpitations, lightheadedness, tingling in the hands and feet, and more.
- Social anxiety disorder. Symptoms include intense fear of being judged by others, mind going blank, blushing, sweating, and avoidance of social situations.
- Related disorders. Other mental health disorders may include anxiety-like symptoms but are classified differently in the DSM, the manual that mental health professionals use for diagnosis. Related and common co-occurring disorders include obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and disordered eating.
What type of therapist is best for anxiety?
There are many qualified mental health professionals who are well-equipped to provide anxiety counseling. All therapists have at least a master’s degree in a mental health-related field, like social work or marriage and family therapy. Psychologists like myself have a doctoral degree in psychology.
All therapists may have slightly different approaches as well. Some use techniques like exposure therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and more. I use a combination of evidence-based methods, including cognitive behavioral therapy.
It’s most important to find a qualified therapist who you connect with. The therapeutic relationship is a critical component of successful therapy, so make sure that you feel comfortable with your therapist.
What is the success rate of anxiety counseling?
Each person has different goals for anxiety therapy, so it’s difficult to say what the success rate is. As we discussed, there are several common benefits that people get out of anxiety therapy. Plus, we’ll work together to make a treatment plan that’s customized to your specific situation.
Keeping an open mind about the therapy process is one way to help you get the most out of your experience. It’s also important to know that you’ll need to invest time, effort, and resources into the process in order to see the results you’re looking for.
