Meet Dr. Kim Knight, Psy.D. | Providing grief counseling in Nashville, Franklin, & Spring Hill
Hi, I’m Dr. Kim Knight. I’m a licensed clinical psychologist who’s been practicing therapy for over 25 years. I provide in-person bereavement counseling for people in the greater Nashville, TN area at my offices in Brentwood and Spring Hill. I also provide online grief counseling to people in over 30 states nationwide.
Everyone experiences grief at some point in their lives, but this doesn’t make it any easier to go through. Navigating loss and the painful emotions that come along with it can be incredibly difficult.
That’s where therapy comes in. I’m committed to creating a safe space to help people move through the grieving process in a healthy, constructive way. Together, we’ll make meaning out of your experience and help you find healing—whatever that looks like for you.
You may have the impression that the “right” way to go through the mourning process is to experience one stage after another. However, that’s not always the case. Nearly any emotion is a natural response to a life-altering loss, and we’ll explore them together. We can’t undo your loss, but we can ensure that you feel seen and supported in your grief.
Why choose Dr. Kim Knight for Nashville grief counseling
Curious whether I’m the right grief counselor for you? Here are a few reasons to consider reaching out.
I recognize that grief and loss can take on many different forms.
When we first hear the words “loss” or “grief,” many people automatically think of death. While losing a loved one, pet, community member, or even beloved public figure is certainly a significant loss, it’s not the only kind. I’m here to hold space for all forms of loss, including job loss, divorce, empty-nesters, and many other challenging life transitions.
I have decades of experience helping people process their grief.
I’ve been in practice for over 25 years, so I’m well-versed in treating grief and loss in all its forms. I also have experience treating complicated grief, a form of grief that lasts longer than “usual.” Additionally, I specialize in treating mental health issues like depression and anxiety, which can often be exacerbated by grief.
I offer grief support for all members of the family.
Loss can rock your relationship or cause tension and strain in your family unit. In addition to individual counseling, I also offer family counseling and couples counseling for people navigating grief. Even if only one person experienced a loss, the ripple effects can extend to those closest to them.
When another practice might be a better fit for your needs
While my services are a good fit for most individuals, couples, and families, I recognize that they may not be right for everyone. Here are some signs to consider working with other licensed counselors for grief therapy.
You’re located in a state that doesn’t participate in PsyPact.
I provide in-person services to people at my offices in Brentwood and Spring Hill, and I also offer virtual grief counseling for residents of the entire state of Tennessee. Through PsyPact, I’m also able to provide therapy for residents of over 30 states nationwide. However, if you’re located in one of the few states that aren’t part of the PsyPact agreement, I’m unfortunately unable to help due to licensing requirements.
You’re looking for a quick way to bypass the grief process.
The pain, uncomfortable feelings, and even physical health symptoms that come along with loss can be unbearable. When you feel stuck in the fog of grief, it makes sense that you’d want a quick fix to get out. However, I see grief as something that’s not meant to be “fixed” or “solved.” Rather, it’s something to explore and process together. Therapy can provide some much-needed support in your daily life, but it won’t eradicate your grief.
You need free therapy.
I recognize that cost can be a significant barrier for some people. Unfortunately, I’m not able to offer free mental health counseling at this time. If you’re interested in making therapy more affordable, I recommend looking into your out-of-network health insurance benefits. I can provide you with a monthly statement to submit for reimbursement.

There is no right or wrong time to seek grief counseling. Some people start therapy right after a loss, while others may not feel ready to process their loss until months or even years afterward.
